A little China Culture

So my sister texted me yesterday about this chinese orchestra that was coming to BYU tonight.  I have to say I was a bit skeptical at first, but it was a really good preformance.  They had some really cool chineses instruments.  This was the first time that this orchestra has been to the U.S. and I am so glad that I got to see them.  It is always really neat to see other people's culture!

My Weekend

Saturday's football game was a huge disappointment, I don't
even what to talk about it, but I did have lots of fun with two of my
favorite people Jenny and Natalie!!!!

Saturday was not the highlight of the weekend, but Sunday was! Just after getting out of Church, Jimmer walked out of his ward! Crazy!  I was so close to him, and when he walked out the door, he held open the door for Jenny and Me!

Hopefully the football team will redeem themselves this Friday, hopefully Saturday's game is all the humbling they need!

long hike but so worth the view at the end.

Last Week of Summer/Beginning of School

So I have been super busy for the past month, the last week of summer I went off to California to go to Disneyland with my family.  The week after that school started!! So life has been pretty hectic, but I am loving every day of it.  Here are some pictures from the past weeks

It was super hot all week in the California Sunshine, so we took a trip to beach to escape the heat.

In Loving Memory of Jane McBride (1919-2011)

On Wednesday night my sweet great-grandma died peacefully at her home.  I have some great memories of my great-grandma, and I am so glad that I was able to have her in my life.  Grandma would always have an easter egg hunt every year for all her great-grandchildren.  It was always exciting, I remember when I was older because I got to hide the eggs.  She always was happy to be alive and cherished life. 

I have never been to a funeral that I can remember until Saturday, so this was an new experience for me.  It was a very sweet service. It is so great to know that I will see my beautiful grandma again, and I know that she is in a great place now.

JANE McBRIDE

Jane B. McBride 1919 ~ 2011 Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Jane B. McBride passed away August 10, 2011. She was born November 1, 1919 in Logan, Utah to Moses Dunkley and Lucy Biggs Watterson. Married Harold J. McBride July 23, 1938; later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served numerous callings in her Ward. She also served a local Stake and Genealogical Mission. She worked and retired after many years of employment with Union Pacific Railroad. She enjoyed sewing, scrap booking, and gardening - her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved them very much. Jane is survived by four children, Mark (Linda), LuJane (Gerald) Gillett, John (Jill), and Pamela (Brent) Rhees; sister, Velma Olsen; sisters-in-law, Nita Watterson and Jean Watterson; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; and one sister. The family expresses a sincere thank you to Summitt Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, where a viewing for friends and family will be from 12-2 p.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery. Welcome Home!!

Yesterday my Grandma and Grandpa Richins came home from their mission to Scotland/Ireland.  They are so great and are already thinking about their next mission.  My grandparents love serving the Lord and teaching the gospel.  Their mission to Ireland was not their first mission, nor the second, it was their third!  First they served in Malawi, Africa, then Yekaterinburg, Russia, and then of course their most recent to Ireland and Scotland.  Everywhere they go they grow to love the people and the people grow to love them.  I am always so proud of my grandparents and their commitment to build zion and gather the Lord's sheep.

Debt Crisis!

It feels like this entire summer, I have heard about the American debt crisis and the worry that America is going to default on its loan if they don't raise the debt ceiling by August 2nd.  There has been a lot of debate lately and personally I feel like this is something that is worth the fight.  Even though I think that it is ridiculous that lawmakers can't agree on anything, there are strong opinions on both sides worth considering.

The national debt is ridiculous, with over 14 trillion in debt.  This is in no ways sustainable.  I personally believe that serious action needs to be taken to reduce the debt.  The biggest thing America could do is to balance the budget.  Americans are taught to live within their means, so why shouldn't the government?  The best thing lawmakers could do right now is to pass a constitutional amendment that would require the budget to balance.  Utah already has a balanced budget amendment and does fine living withing their means.

So about the debt crisis, my hope is that lawmakers do something to reduce spending rather than raising the debt ceiling.  Raising the debt ceiling gives lawmakers to go farther and farther into debt.
